I made it over 40!!! (42 to be exact) I know, I know...this shouldn't be a big deal. Many of you are well over that...all the time. However, my last training cycle, my peak was 39. This was week 5 in this cycle. Well THAT was week 5. (I've been a bad blogger). This past week was week 6 and was a recovery week. I'm just psyched to be upping the mileage, feeling good, and enjoying it. I attribute this too the new orthodics and the oxy sox...which so far I like quite a bit.
The one part of me that doesn't like the mileage is my feet. My toes are actually grotesque. Many toenails are missing (as always) but I have blisters on top of toes where nails should be. Toe nails start to grow back and then are put in their place by my sneaks. No big deal...but man are they ugly. I've been told to try Vaseline in them; but to me it seems as though that would exasperate the issue. Wont slippery toes bang into the sneakers more than no slippery toes????
Most of my runs were very run-of-the mill this week; nothing exciting to report though I am feeling faster. I had a great 8 miler on Thursday. I felt so ON. I threw in a giant hill and then really picked up the speed for the last 3-4 miles. No proof but I know I was hitting some good splits. Sunday's run was the opposite. I felt like a heavy lump and never really got going. The 20 minute DOWNPOUR at mile 4 didn't help either!!! However, I got it done and the last 4-5 miles actually felt good.
Now I'm going into the next meso-cycle with pfitz. My 18 miler this week will be in Eric's hometown of Larchmont, NY. (we're house-sitting) His dad mapped a route out for me that he likes to bike so I don't have to worry about working that out. I've decided to add .2 to all my long runs (i.e. this week's 12 I made 12.2) so I think I need to add about .8 miles to this route, but that should be easy.
Thanks to Rick my hometown running/blogging bud for the shoutout on his blog!!! What a great idea. I'll have to start thinking about some of my readers during my runs. I already told Denise that the next time my legs or feet are getting tired, I'm going to think about her 51 mile lone-ranger run she did yesterday!!!!

Nice job! My feet are totally disgusting and I still wear sandals. I don't even care that I have no toenails. Screw em, I say.
Great workout totals. I DO love a recovery week, though.
Awesome that you're feeling so great with the increased mileage, so happy for you!! I liked Rick's idea too :)
Nice mileage!
Totally agree about Denise. I will never complain that I'm tired again! (Okay, not this week... hehe)
Nice mileage. As far as the toes, I use glide on mine when I'm going for a long run and it has cut down on the damage. Not sure why it works, but the guy at the running shop swore it would (and he was right).
Sometimes I complain about 5 mile and Denise did 51!!! Ah!Mazing!
Way to go on 40....one day I'll get there!
nice job on the mileage!!! you are doing great!
gross feet kinda come with the title, marathoner! :) i'm not sure on the vaseline tricks myself but wouldn't hurt to try?
congrats on the new mileage pr!! keep it up!
As long as you keep your mileage over our age we're still young... right? I'm pretty sure that's the rule
Congrats on the mileage. You vaseline doubters need to try it. I'm telling you, it works. Your "slippery toes" don't "bang" into your shoes! You're welcome for the shoutout. I'm still surprised we haven't seen each other running. I hope your 18 miler goes or went well...and try using the vaseline!
